「カトーン」はタイ語で「灯篭」、「ローイ」は「浮かべる」です。土台はバナナの木の幹で、飾りもバナナの葉です。ろうそく、お線香、お花を用います。（"Loy" is "to float", and "Krathong" is a lotus-shaped vessel made of banana leaves. The Krathong usually contains a candle, tree joss-sticks, and some flowers.）
